Carex pensylvanica, also known as Pennsylvania sedge, is well known for its beautiful colonies that grow under dappled to shady canopy in dry woodlands. Carex pensylvanica is a cool-season slow speading rhizomatous sedge which can form large colonies of delicate, thin foliage which reach a height 6-8". Pennsylvania sedge is great as a groundcover or "lawn" substitute, in low traffic, shady settings.
