The native Longleaf Pondweed, Potamogeton nodosus grows first with broad lance shaded underwater leaves and then produce floating elliptic leaves mid season that help shade the water surface and provides cover for fish. It is commonly found in quiet moving water and ponds in the eastern half of the U.S. Potamogeton nodosus is a good choice for naturalizing in habitat ponds.
