Eragrostis spectabilis is a warm season, clumping perennial with blue-green blades of loose mounding foliage. During late summer, these grassy tufts grow to be about 1-2' tall, and are topped with a haze of airy, rosy-purple inflorencence. Purple love grass prefers fun sun and dry, sandy, or gravelly soils. Eragrostis spectabilis is a hardy species, tolerant of disturbed sites, salt, and difficult conditions. This is a short-lived perennial, but will readily reseed to maintain its population. Leaves are unpalatable to deer, and birds and other wildlife enjoy the seed.
